Egg Freezing - A Meaningful Option Offering Flexibility and Peace of Mind for Your Future Family Plans.

If you hope to have a child but aren’t yet ready—whether because you haven’t found the right partner, your partner isn’t ready to commit to pregnancy, or you simply want more time—egg freezing allows you to preserve your fertility while it’s at its peak. Later, when the time feels right, you can thaw and fertilize your eggs to begin your pregnancy journey.

Maybe you’re focused on education, career, or other life goals before taking on the joys and responsibilities of parenthood. Egg freezing empowers you to pursue your dreams now while keeping the door open for family later.

For some, religious or ethical beliefs make storing frozen embryos a difficult choice. If you’re considering IVF, freezing eggs (rather than embryos) offers an alternative. This allows you to fertilize only the eggs needed for each IVF cycle, preserving the rest for future use—giving you another chance at pregnancy without additional ovarian stimulation.

Egg freezing also provides hope for those facing medical challenges.

Originally developed to help cancer patients preserve fertility before treatments like chemotherapy or radiation—which can damage eggs—this option ensures you still have the possibility of biological children after recovery. At our Baton Rouge and Lafayette fertility centers, we’ll carefully evaluate your age, diagnosis, and treatment plan to create the best path forward for you.

Beyond cancer, egg freezing may be a thoughtful choice if:

  • You have severe endometriosis or another condition affecting ovarian health
  • Your family has a history of early menopause
  • You’re taking medications or have an autoimmune condition that may impact fertility

No matter your reason, we’re here to support you with understanding and expert care as you explore your options.

Why Age Matters and What to Expect with Process of Egg Freezing

Egg quality and quantity are highest in your 20s and early 30s, making this the ideal time to freeze. As you age, eggs diminish in both number and genetic quality, which can impact success rates later. By freezing your eggs earlier, you’re essentially "pausing" their biological clock, giving yourself the best possible options for building a family down the road.

  • Ovarian Stimulation & Monitoring

You’ll take hormonal medications (injectables) for about 8–12 days to stimulate your ovaries to produce multiple eggs.

Regular ultrasound and bloodwork monitoring ensure the eggs are developing properly and allow adjustments to medication if needed.

  • Egg Retrieval Procedure

A minor outpatient procedure (under light sedation) retrieves the eggs in about 15–20 minutes.

You’ll recover quickly, with most women resuming normal activities within 1–2 days.

  • Freezing & Storage

Your eggs are flash-frozen (vitrified) using advanced technology to preserve their quality.

They can be safely stored for years until you’re ready to use them.

Cost Considerations

Egg freezing may be a more affordable first step compared to full IVF because it doesn’t include fertilization, embryo incubation, or transfer. You’ll only incur those costs later, when you’re ready to thaw, fertilize, and attempt pregnancy. This makes egg freezing a flexible financial and biological investment in your future.

Whether you're prioritizing personal goals, waiting for the right partner, or simply want to keep your options open, egg freezing empowers you to plan for the family you hope to have—on your own timeline.
