Our Story

I chose to be an ObGyn because of the breadth of the specialty, offering clinic primary care to highly specialized surgical care. For over 5,000 deliveries, I’ve always been drawn to the existential magic of childbirth—a natural and joyful part of life, not an illness. Every delivery makes me think about all of the steps in the miracle that seems a part of life for many families. But for some women, this is not a routine, simple journey.

For over 30 years, I’ve dedicated myself to understanding human reproduction, witnessing firsthand the rising challenges of infertility and the deep emotional toll it takes on families. The desire to have children is one of the most fundamental human longings, woven into the very fabric of our lives and even reflected in the earliest commandments: "Be fruitful and multiply." When that desire goes unfulfilled, it doesn’t just affect individuals—it impacts families, communities, and our society as a whole.

That’s why I’ve chosen to take my experience the last mile—offering IVF and fertility care in a smaller, independent clinic where patients are more than just a number. Here, you’ll find personalized attention, tailored treatment plans, and a compassionate team that truly knows you. Unlike larger institutions, we prioritize flexibility, transparency, and a supportive environment, ensuring your journey is as smooth and hopeful as possible.

Because every family deserves the chance to grow. And we’re here to help make that possible with an experienced and dedicated staff.

My Path to IVF: Experience, Dedication, and a Vision for Better Care

My passion for fertility and surgery took root early. During my residency at LSU (1992–1996), I trained under a program director (Reproductive Endocrinologist and Infertility Specialist) in a program where residents actively participated in subspecialty care including High-Risk OB, Oncology, IVF, infertility care, and complex surgeries—an unusual opportunity that shaped my future. Though I considered fellowships, I chose private practice, eager to apply my skills directly to patient care.

In 1996, I joined a practice in Washington/Idaho, where my recent training set me apart from partners who trained before fertility and minimally invasive surgical advances. Through my academic role in the WWAMI program, I connected with Dr. Mike Soules and became a satellite provider for the University of Washington’s IVF program. For six years, I managed IVF cycles under their mentorship, deepening my expertise in fertility care.

When I moved to Green Bay in 2002, there were no local REI specialists. Partnering with an Illinois-based clinic, Women's Specialty Care became the go-to provider for fertility monitoring, surgery, and diagnostics in Northeast Wisconsin. Over 15 years, I handled consults, surgeries (myomectomies, endometriosis resection, tuboplasty), and IVF prep—all while expanding our in-house lab and imaging capabilities. My practice grew to focus almost exclusively on fertility and complex gynecology, earning referrals from colleagues across the region.

In 2021, I sat for and passed the exams and submitted case lists to certify my practice focus in minimally invasive surgery. Over the years, patients have been referred or have sought me out due to my abilities to solve problems that other gynecologists struggle with. And since 2007, I have proctored hundreds of surgeons to expand their skill sets, quality, and cost-effectiveness in surgery.

After COVID and a transition of doctors, including a retirement from our Illinois partnership in 2019, Wisconsin’s shortage of affordable IVF care became even more apparent. In 2022, I stepped away from obstetrics to focus entirely on fertility and gyn surgery, investing the past two years in advanced training: studying ASRM guidelines, collaborating with REIs, and refining my skills to offer full IVF services.

Now, I’m committed to bringing personalized, high-quality IVF care to Northeast Wisconsin. With decades of surgical expertise, practical fertility success, an expert embryology team, and a dedication to patient-centered medicine, I’m ready to help families complete their journey.

  • Dr. Coussons Experience

28 Years of Surgical Fertility & IVF Cycle Experience

With nearly three decades of specialized experience in fertility care, I’ve dedicated my career to helping patients navigate the complex journey of infertility. My practice has uniquely blended advanced reproductive medicine with high-volume surgical expertise, performing 25-30 fertility-related procedures monthly - including minimally invasive myomectomies, endometriosis resections, and tubal surgeries - a case load that surpasses most reproductive endocrinologists.  I served as a primary source of fertility consults for Northeast Wisconsin and Upper Michigan, partnering with a major IVF center to provide comprehensive care including IVF monitoring, ovulation induction, IUI, and male factor treatments.

My hands-on approach extended to developing advanced clinical capabilities - establishing and directing an in-house moderate complexity lab with same-day results for IVF monitoring, implementing office-based operative hysteroscopy under conscious sedation, and maintaining AIUM-certified ultrasound services. As lab director, I oversaw immunoassay, microbiology, hematology and chemistry testing while introducing in-office cryostorage for donor specimens. This practical experience gave me unique insight into both the technical and patient-care aspects of fertility treatment.

The retirement of my long-time IVF partner in 2019 revealed a critical gap in high quality, accessible reproductive care for our region. Since transitioning exclusively to gynecology and fertility medicine in 2022, I’ve focused my extensive surgical and clinical experience toward establishing full IVF services - filling an urgent need for families that travel out of state for IVF or have difficulty with access to quality fertility care across North Wisconsin and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  My approach remains rooted in three decades of real-world practice: combining precision surgical skills, diagnostic expertise, and compassionate care to help patients achieve their dreams of building a family.
